What a mess!
It’s August already and we are deeply locked into an ongoing drought. The land around us looks very different from the usual predictable natural world, and the idea of a green and pleasant land seems very far away. On reflection, that is not the only area of our lives that seems to be out of sorts; in fact, there appear to be many out-of-control forces at play across environmental, political, social, emotional and geographical aspects that together are creating a situation that our institutions and structures are not able to respond to, and this situation can broadly be described as a mess.
Some of us appear to be able to ride above it all, but then we become part of the problem. True, many of us have managed our lives to provide a secure and comfortable existence as we descend slowly into a peaceful retirement but all of that is becoming increasingly threatened. The time has come for us to ask ourselves, how have we arrived at this situation? We may have answers which involve loads of finger pointing, but the broad answer to how we have arrived at a situation we do not want to be in is our lack of consciousness.
Our lack of conscious awareness in a world balanced between cause and effect is bound to lead to a mess and chaos and certain disaster which is a progression we need to learn to avoid. However, I don’t think the answer is a crusade of any form (we are still paying the price for those). The time has come to start with ourselves, and only once we have cleaned up our own mess can we look to other messes.
So, it starts with us raising our consciousness. There are forces within us that need to be brought to a place of harmony. The four main energies at play within each of us are physical, emotional, mental/creative and meditative. Probably we give most of our time over to the first two and reduce the second two to a small percentage of our day. Sadhguru says that when we manage our energies like this we most likely become a hyperactive mess until we become exhausted then we are just a burned out mess. Then we unconsciously create in our own image: a mess creating a mess.
We are being asked to start increasing our awareness by reflecting on ourselves more, turning inwards and becoming aware of who and what we are. To be honest about what is really going on for us and to learn creative ways to know and transform ourselves into that conscious being we want all our leaders and others to be.
Let’s paint a picture of how this would manifest. We would no longer be caught in our compulsions, reactions and habits. We would care for others and the environment, knowing that we are all connected. We wouldn’t fight wars or be conflicted, internally or externally.
By raising our consciousness, we open the door to wisdom, which ends the suffering. It is not a dull repressive journey, it an exciting and freeing path that becomes the building block for the world we wish for our children’s children.
With love,
Jeff
