Our Humanity

My most recent blog was on the subject of kindness and it seems to have just touched the surface of what we need to face in our world right now. On last night’s news bulletin there was an interaction with a little girl in Gaza. The story starts with a clip of her on the roof of a building running from a firestorm, alone and in a state of terror surrounded by flames and destruction. Later she appears, again alone, facing the camera speaking of the loss of her brothers and sister and how she wants only to be with them. She describes her mother and the boundless love she has for her that is greater than the sky and stars – but her mother has also died in the bombing. This little girl, only 5 years old, faces a loss so great that I can only imagine her anguish. I feel that level of loss so deep inside that it reaches the deepest parts of our souls; I believe that we who have an understanding that we have all fallen from grace would respond in kind. We can feel that loss of love that fills the sky, that wonder and joy that is the true potential of each one of us. What remains is a mere distant echo of that part of who we are, for we have lost our humanity, which comes from our ability to love and be loved. How is it possible to abide in a state of wonder and joy and be able to extend that as loving kindness in a world filled with such anguish? That girl now stands at a crossroad, as on some level we all do. Will she live a life of hate and revenge often hidden by denial against those that have taken so much from her, or will she turn to her humanity that only someone who has consciously lost so much can do? To be surrounded by fire with no escape speaks of a shamanic test that she has passed and my only wish for her now is that she continues to amaze, that she walks the path to her true nature and somehow transcends the consciousness that has created this horror. The same news bulletin showed soldiers firing their weapons at an enemy that no longer exists, an enemy that only remains in the minds of those who claim to seek victory in mountains of rubble and dead or starving people. They who believe that a war is winnable for in truth no one wins a war, you just take a titanic pain and pass it to a new generation while keeping it alive in you. Victory can only come from the manifestation of love and inclusion when we awaken to our true nature. But that has now been named a sin; a new slang has been created and a new war declared, the war against “woke”. Woke is a word which speaks of our awakening to loving kindness, that we remember our humanity for that is what we all share and have in common. I truly hope in these times when humanity seems so absent and it seems so dark that this becomes the springboard to the rebirth of our humanity, for out of the hell that we have created come the leaders, visionaries and prophets that can help humanity transition and take the next step back to oneness. We are all called to learn the wisdom that ends the suffering and in doing so we win back our humanity and make that the experience of this world. I could not sleep this night, and my heart goes out to that little girl in Gaza and all the other children who are facing such monumental losses. Whilst this is an almost unbelievable time of man’s brutality to man what would turn it to an even greater tragedy is that we don’t learn from this time and therefore set it to repeat again and again. Today I will again commit to regaining my humanity in words, deeds and actions and to awaken to my best nature. The time has come for us all to choose again and again until we all win back our compassion, a loving kindness that fills the sky and the stars.
