Polluting Our World
It was a bit of a shock to me that the Pope spoke up regarding the dangers to our world from climate change. Don’t get me wrong I think it is a very major step in the right direction for as I travel the four corners of the world it is the comment I certainly hear most. In India, in Zambia, in Europe, in China and also here at home the climate is changing and changing significantly and we can only guess at the impact it will have on us all. Considering our reluctance to change I assume it will be mostly painful.
A few years ago I was on the periphery of a conference in Taiwan which had as its main topic the direct mirror between the pollution of the world and the spiritual pollution in people’s minds. It was attended by many teachers and spiritual leaders. Unfortunately it is not something I have heard of again, as it is one of our core principles that the world around us is a reflection of our own minds. I believe it is true that some of us are called to go out into the world and do the work required to correct our imbalance however I also think we are all called to work on cleaning up our own minds and thoughts.
A Course of Miracles states that ALL thought creates form somewhere. It is not possible to have a thought that does not have some effect someplace in our universe; neutral thoughts are impossible as they are all going someplace. Masters are well aware of this and so choose their thoughts carefully when required to think but they prefer the quiet mind. It is obvious that we need to be vigilant about our thoughts and work to purify our minds from judgment, self-attack, conflict – the list goes on and on. For me this is the most effective path and a significant contribution to our planet.
When a study of visionaries was done to discover what they had in common one of the more obvious traits was a very positive view of the future; not denial about the challenges we face, but a firm belief that whatever we need to learn and apply will transpire to great effect. So for me while I am unable to totally empty my mind I will commit to using the thoughts I have towards investing in a bright future eventually.
With love,
Jeff
