Susie and I are just back from our 5 day workshop in Munich, Germany. This is always a fun workshop for us as we have developed many great relationships with our students so it is always healing and always a pleasure.
In this seminar we had a great time busting our archetypes, freeing us from the glass ceilings that had been holding us back from really moving forward. In the family groups people acted out their archetypes, those people of history, fairy tales or mythology they would most want to be like, until they “popped” them. As the process before had been about regaining the gift of play it made bursting through our archetypes loads of fun.
Our shadows, on the other hand, were a little more challenging as often our instinct is to go to war with them. Most of us have been raised in a world of good and bad so it is natural we that have developed this knee jerk reaction to fight or flight around our shadows. We also are fed a full diet of shadows from our governments and newspapers, many of which build their existence on fighting shadow figures or shadow groups. We in Europe now have seen a big shift in the European Parliament mainly based on the created fear of one shadow group: Immigrants!
It seems we all need to learn and to remember not to fight our shadows because it is a fight we will lose because our shadows are us. This can be a hard principle to accept, but behind our shadows is a vast reservoir of energy that, once we will regain it, will propel us to a whole new level of success and happiness. But it does take courage to accept, forgive and integrate our shadows.
As we integrate our shadows, we see that the duality of this world is something we are being asked to transcend so that we can experience peace, because only from that will we be able to contribute to a world of peace. Today might be a good day to start.
With love, Jeff and Sue
