Our Broken Taboos
We have just finished our 10-day training in Salisbury led by Julie and Jeff. This event is always the high point of our year and this time was again a great reminder of what is important in life – friendships, fun and even a little healing. We had participants from all over the world: Australia, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Austria, Switzerland and Germany plus a scattering of Brits. We basically started by recognising and letting go of our roles and finished by integrating our shadows and visited many places in between.
It is always fantastic to share precious time with people on a healing path because it shows us such deep dynamics and also reintroduces us to some of our old ones but from a new perspective.
One of these insights was a reminder about taboos. The list of forbidden behaviours easily runs into about 60 things that society says we are not allowed to do. It only takes a few moments to recognise many of us have broken quite a few of our society’s taboos during our lives and now that we are older we either hide them in shame or laugh them off, thinking they have little if any effect on our present lives.
However at Salisbury we were shown that at a deeper level we have linked our success in life or in love with doing something that our world tells us we are not allowed to do. As a result we now subconsciously throw much of our success away, leaving us struggling hard for the small accomplishments we allow ourselves. Our taboos take in a broad spectrum often starting with our Oedipal issues and including things we did to small furry animals or the next-door neighbour, and the imaginings and fantasies of our mind.
Every one of our broken taboos is now blocking some level of success. So take the time to revisit these broken taboos, see your part in them and then forgive yourself so that you can receive the success you truly deserve.
Love, Jeff and Sue
